2015 MTV Movie Award Nominations

The nominees were announced last Wednesday for the 2015 MTV Movie Awards. I commonly refer to these awards as the “unofficial” official end of the awards season IMO. First inducted in 1992, the MTV Movie Awards are geared toward a younger audience and nominate more mainstream films.

Now for the Rundown:
The list of best movies has been increased from the usual five this year to eight, just like the Oscars.
Speaking of the Oscars, out of the eight pictures that were nominated for the Oscars four of them have been nominated for Best Movie for the MTV Movie Awards (In alphabetical order): “American Sniper”, “Boyhood”, “Selma”, and “Whiplash”
The films with the most nominations were tied at seven apiece - “Guardians of the Galaxy”, “The Fault in our Stars”, and “Neighbors”
The MTV Movie Awards are sometimes seen as recognizing those that SHOULD have been nominated for Oscars: Miles Teller got a nomination for Best Male Performance among others for “Whiplash” (and IMO, should have gotten a Best Actor nod for the Oscars as well). Kudos to MTV for showing love to J.K. Simmons and not leaving him out of the loop because of his Oscar win (and people still love him as being J. Jonah Jamison). Ellar Coltrane also got love boy for “Boyhood” transformation as tMason whereas the Oscars shut him out of the acting race. Also nominated for an MTV award was David Oleywolo, who the Oscars neglected to add to the best actor field
Out of the three major movies based on a trilogy of YA novels (“The Maze Runner, "The Hunger Games”  and “Divergent”), only the last failed to make the cut
The Amazing Spider-Man 2….C’mon. REALLY? Instead of one nomination, reduce it to zero (or to reiterate something Terence Fletcher says, that movie series is “not my tempo”)
Apparently now MTV wants to jump on the Meryl Streep bandwagon with her Best Villain nod for “Into the Woods".
Emma Stone was great in “Birdman”, but Michael Keaton not up for Best Male Performer (at least he shares a nomination for fight scene with Edward Norton.)
Still no love for Ben Affleck. His “Gone Girl” movie is also up for Best Movie of the Year, while Rosalind Pike got lot of love. (That movie should’ve have either snuck in for Best Picture at the Oscars as the ninth spot or taken “Grand Budapest Hotel” out of the running. Honestly, why that movie was up for Best Picture is beyond me.)
No love for another great comic book movie this year: “X-Men: Days of Future Past”. Should’ve been nominated for picture, male performer (either James McAvoy or Hugh Jackman), villain (Michael Fassbender), and fight (for either the futuristic battles between mutants and sentinels or Jennifer Lawrence vs. those government agents). Peter Dinklage was okay, but Fassbender’s Magneto really stood out.
And last but not least, this is the FIRST TIME that I’ve seen all of the best pictures beforehand.
