My first BIG NEWS ever (and this blog's only three months old)!!!
I’m making my first film.
Well, it’s a student film, but you gotta start somewhere.
For a while now, I’ve been in the works of writing a screenplay for a short film that I’m making for my film production class. When I wrote my first draft, I had a working title. I won’t tell you the title of it just yet because the title itself was generic. I knew it was a generic title. I even knew long before the teacher and a few friends gave me feedback with the first question being “Can you change the title?”
Then I began writing my second draft over spring break. It got stronger, but it’s not 100% there yet. But then something hit me. I have found the perfect title of my short film. I wrote it down quick on a copy of my first draft so I wouldn’t forget it: my first draft still uses the old title while the current draft uses the new title. The title met its approval, and now I’m revealing it. The title of my first feature (albeit) short film is….drum roll please….
“Unexpected Detours”
The plot of the movie (with a little backstory that may/may not be included in the final product): a college freshman named Trent is going out on his first date with a girl named Chloe, who just got out of a bad relationship six months prior. Chloe is in one of Trent's classes, and she really likes him. She agrees to go on the date. Trent desperately wants his date to go smoothly and by doing so make a good first impression, but everything that he doesn’t want to go wrong ends up going wrong for him.
I won’t give away everything that goes wrong, but I’ll just leave the imagination for yourselves.
Two draft of the script are done, and this weekend I will have one more go-around to polish and tweak it up before filming begins. In the meantime, I have some crew members lined up and auditioning some people for each part. The first round of auditions were today, and next week I plan to hold two more before I make my final decision on who to cast. I’ll tell you more when the cast and crew are set in stone.
I hope to keep everybody updated as I embark on this new endeavor. (And yes, I will slowly post my top ten soon — I have them but haven’t made the actual list yet. Forgive me.)
I always wanted to make a film, and now it’s coming true (even though it’s for homework, and to that I say, to paraphrase Comic Book Guy: BEST. HOMEWORK. ASSIGNMENT. EVER.)
P.S.: Sorry, Comic Book Guy!
